Dendritic Pattern Formation and Contact Line Forces during Dewetting of Dilute Polymer Solutions on a Hydrophobic Surface

چکیده
The micro-scale morphology of the receding contact line dilute polyethylene oxide solution drops (c ∼ 100 ppm) after impact and inertial spreading on a fluorinated hydrophobic surface is investigated. One can observe formation transient liquid filaments dendritic structures that evolve into bead-on-a-string structure similar to well-known capillary breakup mechanism polymer solutions, which confirm interaction between stetched coils three-phase line. estimation average force per unit lenght provides quantitative explanation for reduction retraction velocity observed experimentally.

simulation and experimental studies for prediction mineral scale formation in oil field during mixing of injection and formation water
abstract: mineral scaling in oil and gas production equipment is one of the most important problem that occurs while water injection and it has been recognized to be a major operational problem. the incompatibility between injected and formation waters may result in inorganic scale precipitation in the equipment and reservoir and then reduction of oil production rate and water injection rate. ...
Pattern-Directed Dewetting of Ultrathin Polymer Films
We utilize chemically patterned substrates with arrays of progressively narrower stripes (1-15 μm) to investigate the influence of pattern size on the morphology of ultrathin dewetting polystyrene films. The scale and orientation of the spinodal-like height fluctuations of the dewetting patterns are coupled to the imposed substrate chemical frequency, providing a powerful means of morphological...
متن کاملTaming contact line instability for pattern formation
Coating surfaces with different fluids is prone to instability producing inhomogeneous films and patterns. The contact line between the coating fluid and the surface to be coated is host to different instabilities, limiting the use of a variety of coating techniques. Here we take advantage of the instability of a receding contact line towards cusp and droplet formation to produce linear pattern...
متن کاملEquilibrium and Dynamics of Dilute Polymer Solutions
Polymers show universal behavior at long length and time scales. In this chapter, the equilibrium and dynamics of dilute polymer solutions is presented in terms of theoretical models that form the basis of polymer physics. The size of an ideal polymer is calculated from the freely jointed chain model, the freely rotating chain model and the Gaussian equivalent chain model. The Edwards Hamiltoni...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional turbulence of dilute polymer solutions.
We investigate theoretically and numerically the effect of polymer additives on two-dimensional turbulence by means of a viscoelastic model. We provide compelling evidence that, at vanishingly small concentrations, such that the polymers are passively transported, the probability distribution of polymer elongation has a power law tail: Its slope is related to the statistics of finite-time Lyapu...
